Wickham Park: Catching Up #1, September 20, 24 and October 15, 2010

I've built up a backlog of photography field trips to be posted; since mid-September: 8 to Wickham Park, 2 to Turkey Creek, and 1 each to Pelican Island, Lake Washington, Cruickshank, and Rotary Park. I will start working off the Wickham Park trips first. This first of the series covers trips made on September 20 and 24 and October 15. This set is notable for the discovery of a new (to me) species--Shyleaf.

Shyleaf (Aeschynomene americana, Fabaceae)

I found this strange, tall, straggly plant on October 15. It was growing to the right of the gate into the Youth Camping Area, mixed in with some Bidens mitis. It's the only Shyleaf I've seen in the park. It behaves like a mimosa--its leaves fold up when touched.
