Washington Oaks State Park, October 31, 2010

Outside the box, again. This time two counties away, in Flagler County. Washington Oaks is about 5 miles south of Flagler Beach on A1A. I've included it because I found a couple of plants there that I had seen only once before in Brevard.

Leafless swallowwort (Cynanchum scoparium, Apocynaceae)
Native

This plant is a close relative of the milkweeds. The opening seedpod above resembles milkweed pods.

Spanish needles (Bidens bipinnata, Asteraceae)
Native

It's interesting that I found the swallowwort and this Bidens near each other here and in the Enchanted Forest. I believe they both are frequently found in hammocks.
