Erna Nixon Park: Jack-in-the-Pulpit, February 1, 2015

We went looking for Jack-in-the-Pulpits; found a lot of plants, but only a few flowering. New leaves were emerging on the red maples, elms, and willows.

This is a female flower (catkin); it will later turn into a mass of fluffy seeds. The pollen-laden male catkins had come and gone already.
