Tosohatchee WMA, August 19, 2014

We had hoped to find Phoebanthus and Catesby's lily, but no luck. Last year in late August we saw both.

Yellow bladderworts were found in the water along the south side of Bee Head Rd. Not sufficient info to identify the species.

Fringed meadowbeauty (Rhexia petiolata, Melastomataceae)
Native

Abundant in ditch on west side of St. Nicholas Rd. Identifying characteristics: anthers straight, hypanthium mostly glabrous, leaf margins with distinctly ciliate teeth.

Pale meadowbeauty (Rhexia mariana, Melastomataceae). Native

Note the tiny, delicate spurs at the junction of the anthers and filaments. I do not know if the spurs are diagnostic.

Winged loosestrife (Lythrum alatum var. lanceolatum, Lythraceae)

The large, light-green leaves belong to a species of morning glory (bindweed?) that was climbing on the loosestrife.
