Ocala National Forest, SR 19, May 31, 2016

Driving back home from Palatka on SR 19, we came across a small milkweed. It was located near the beginning of FR 33, just off SR 19, a few miles south of Salt Springs.

Whorled milkweed (Asclepias verticillata, Apocynaceae)

Found throughout most of the state. "Sandhills and flatwoods; occasional" per Wunderlin.

The butterfly appears to be a Phaon Crescent.
