A quick look at what's blooming in April in Wimbrow.

This specimen's petals were darker lavender than usual.

Florida greeneyes (Berlandiera subacaulis, Asteraceae)
Native, Florida endemic

The lobed leaves identify this species as B. subacaulis. The leaves of the other greeneyes in Florida (soft greeneyes, B. pumila) are not lobed. Also, the disk flowers in B. subacaulis are yellow; whereas, the disk flowers in B. pumila are red to maroon.

This photo shows the dried remains of muck sunflowers that we photographed here in bloom on October 17, 2012. Even in this dried state, they were easily recognized by their narrow, linear leaves.
