Tosohatchee WMA, February 22, 2013

We frequently make a quick stop at Tosohatchee on our way back home from Orlando. This time it was late in the day and cloudy, so the photos aren't very good. In addition to the five species shown below, we also saw a few Bidens mitis and Coreopsis leavenworthii. Noticed one patch of partially opened wooly sunbonnets/pineland daisy (Chaptalia tomentosa). Irises are coming up in the ditch on the south side of Power Line Rd., probably will be blooming by mid-March.

Narrowleaf blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium, Iridaceae)
Native

Found along both sides of Beehead Rd.

 Bog white violet (Viola lanceolata, Violaceae)
Native

Several large patches of white violets along north side of Beehead Rd. Leaves are basal, linear or lanceolate, margins toothed.

Walter's viburnum (Viburnum obovatum, Adoxaceae)
Native

A shrub found along south side of Power Line Rd.

Bay lobelia (Lobelia feayana, Campanulaceae)
Native, Florida endemic

Found along both sides of Fish Hole Rd.

American snowbell (Styrax americanus, Styracaceae)
Native

This shrub is located on the northeast corner of Fish Hole Rd. and Beehead Rd.

    The snowbell has such an interesting flower.

    I also photographed that flower on March 26, 2011; see the posting for that date. That's the only snowbell shrub I've come across in Tosohatchee.
